COLONIC POLYPS & CANCER
Colonic Polyps And Cancer
Colon Cancer is becoming a Major Health problem worldwide. When detected early it can be curable in almost 90% patients. People over 50 Years or more are likely to suffer from colon cancer as compared to younger one.
This disease begins in the cells that line the colon. Causes of disease:
CAUSES OF DISEASE
A polyp is extra tissue that grows inside your body. Colonic polyps grow in the large intestine. The large intestine, also called the colon. These polyps may be small or large. The cells in the polyp eventually become uncontrolled and turn into cancer.
Colon cancer can develop in conditions, such as ulcerative colitis, a chronic inflammation in the colon. There is strong medical evidence that abnormal genes for colon polyps and cancer can be passed from Parent to Child, which are unable to control growth of polyps.
We recommend people above 45 years to undertake screening tests for colon polyps to prevent colon cancer.
SYMPTOMS OF DISEASE
Mostly small polyps don’t cause symptoms./strong> Often, people don’t know they have Colonic Polyps, until the doctor finds it during a regular check up or while testing them for some other problem. Incase polyps get large in size, they can cause symptoms and complications such as bleeding from rectum, change in bowel habits includes diarrhea, constipation, going to the bathroom more often or less often than usual, or a change in colour of stool (Blood can make stool look black, or it can show up as red streaks in the stool).
CAR AND GUIDANCE
As we cannot change our genes but if there is a family history of colon polyps or cancer, a colonoscopy should be performed to remove the polyps before they become malignant. In early stages these types of cancers are 90% curable, so one should be careful about symptoms and screening should be definitely done after the age of 45 years .
